AI answers from what it finds about you on Google, review sites, directories, local lists and your website. Track the questions below every week, find out which sites AI cites for them, and get your company onto those sites with detailed, consistent information. ## What homeowners ask AI about fencing These are the kinds of questions to track. Add your city or service area to each one, and add one for every service you sell. - "Who's the best fence company near me?" - "Who installs cedar privacy fences near me?" - "How much does a 6 ft privacy fence cost?" - "Which fence company does pool fences?" - "Who builds custom gates near me?" The first type, "who should I hire", is the one that brings calls. Cost and problem questions matter too, because AI often names local companies in those answers. ## Where AI looks for fencing recommendations In my own tracking for fence questions, AI cited Google most, then the fence company's own website, then Thumbtack, HomeAdvisor, Angi and the BBB. Local "best fence companies" lists also show up often. The American Fence Association member directory is worth a listing too. The exact mix changes by city, so check which sites AI cites for your own questions before you spend time on any of them. That's the first thing a GEO dashboard shows you. ## What to fix first 1. **Your Google Business Profile.** Exact name, right category, every service, real service area, job photos. 2. **Reviews with detail.** Ask customers to mention the job and the neighborhood. 3. **The directories AI cites for your questions.** Complete, identical listings. 4. **Answer pages on your website.** One page per main service and area, written as answers. ## Tips specific to fencing - Write a page per fence type (wood, vinyl, iron, chain link) and per major area you serve. That is what moved my own website from the 26th to the 2nd most-cited site. - Ask for reviews that name the fence type and the neighborhood. - Track the "who should I hire" questions separately from cost questions. They behave differently, and the hiring ones bring the calls. ## Does this work for a small fence company? Yes. AI doesn't favor the biggest ad budget. It favors the company it can find and trust for a specific question in a specific area. I used this approach on my own fence company, and it's now #1 in AI visibility in its city and the second most-cited website for fence questions, behind only Google.
